New Details On General''s Modernized Hoyo Emerge

Earlier this month, General Cigar unveiled a new cigar line slated for March called Hoyo, a modernized take on the classic Hoyo de Monterrey brand. At the time of the cigar's announcement, General was keeping Hoyo's size and blend specifics tightly under wraps, but new details surrounding the brand have recently come to light.

As described in our previous coverage of Hoyo, the cigar wears a wrapper varietal proprietary to General called Habano Shade, grown under mesh netting in Estelí, Nicaragua. This is the same wrapper type that adorns the Hoyo Edición de Cumpleaños 150, a limited-edition cigar launched last year-a cigar that influenced much of Hoyo's packaging.

However, General says that an extra two-year fermentation process was applied to Hoyo's Habano Shade wrapper. The cigar also dons an Ecuadoran Sumatra binder and three types of filler tobacco: Pennsylvania ligero from the United States and Nicaraguan tobacco grown in Estelí and Ometepe.

Hoyo will arrive at retailers in four sizes: Rothschild, at 4 1/2 inches by 50 ring gauge ($5.49); Robusto, 5 by 54 ($6.59); Toro, 6 by 50 ($6.79); and Gigante, 6 by 60 ($6.99). The cigars will come in sleek, black-and-silver boxes of 20 and are made at General Cigar's STG Danlí factory in Honduras. Enditem
