Partagás, Hoyo de Monterrey Added To Cuban Añejados Cigar Program

The Partagás Corona Gorda and the Hoyo de Monterrey Hermosos No. 4 are the two new Cuban cigars scheduled for release this year under the Añejados program started by Habanos S.A. The new smokes join the Añejados cigars released in 2015-the Romeo y Julieta Pirámides and the Montecristo Churchill.

The Añejados series are cigars that have been aged between five to eight years in their original packaging. According to Habanos, the boxes are then opened, the cigars checked and each is affixed with an original band, as well as a secondary Añejados band. The bottom of each box will be stamped with the word revisado, Spanish for revised or checked. The age statement on the box is not the age of the tobacco, but the date that the cigars were rolled and boxed.

The Partagás Corona Gorda is a 5 5/8 inch by 46 ring gauge cigar. It will be available in dress boxes of 25. The Hoyo de Monterrey Hermoso No. 4 is 5 by 48, and will also be available in dress boxes of 25. In both cases, the box resembles the traditional Partagás and Hoyo de Monterrey packaging.

Both sizes are unique to their respective brand portfolios, as there are otherwise no Corona Gordas in the Partagás brand and no Hermosos No. 4 for Hoyo. Habanos notes that is a special release and that the vitola, or size, will be not be repeated for either of the brands.

The original Añejados cigars that debuted in 2015-the Romeo y Julieta Pirámides and the Montecristo Churchill-were well-received in the global market. In Cigar Aficionado's ratings, the Romeo y Julieta Añejados received a score of 92 points and the Montecristo Churchill Añejados scored 91 points.

Habanos S.A. has never released an actual production figure for the Añejados cigars, but has declared that they are limited-production items, and they will not be manufactured again after the stocks run out. The company expects the new cigars to ship globally during this year's first quarter. Enditem
