Davidoff Of Geneva Celebrates Year Of The Monkey

In what has become a staple in Davidoff's limited-edition portfolio, the company has announced its newest zodiacal Chinese New Year cigar-the Davidoff Year of the Monkey 2016. It's a pigtailed toro headed to retailers this month.

The limited-edition cigar, which measures 6 1/2 inches by 50 ring gauge, combines an Ecuador Habano wrapper and Mexican San AndreĢs binder with a diverse combination of filler tobacco: Piloto Cubano, a Dominican Corojo/Olor hybrid and ligero tobacco from the Dominican Republic, along with some Nicaraguan and Peruvian tobacco as well.

Differing from last year's Year Of The Sheep torpedo, Davidoff will return to the more traditional straight-sided parejo format for 2016. (2014's Year of The Horse and 2013's Year of the Snake were both parejos).

Similar to previous Chinese New Year cigars, Year Of The Monkey dons a red secondary band depicting a chimpanzee. The slide-lid boxes, which contain ten cigars each, are uniquely shaped with red drawers encased in a bamboo exterior. Atop the box is a laser engraving of the Davidoff and Year Of The Monkey logos. The design, according to Davidoff, is meant to reflect the aesthetic origins of Chinese culture.

To coincide with the release of the limited-edition smokes, Davidoff has also announced two Year Of The Monkey ashtrays: one that is circular ($149) with a single cigar notch for solitary smoking and one rectangular ($249) with two notches for company. Both are made of French porcelain and are decorated in red and gold with the Year Of The Monkey emblem.

Year Of The Monkey is slated to retail for $34 per cigar and only 8,500 boxes will be released. The cigars will be available worldwide in late 2015 or early 2016. Enditem
