Indianhead''s New La Galera Shipping Soon Source from: Cigar Aficionado 11/06/2015 After his recent acquisition of Indianhead Cigar Co., JoseĢ "Jochy" Blanco of Tabacalera Palma introduced the La Galera brand to coincide with the new purchase. La Galera is a premium cigar brand made in the Dominican Republic and sold through Indianhead, which distributes mostly value brands. The new brand comes in two varieties-Habano and Connecticut-and Blanco anticipates the cigars to hit retailers some time this month. "The wrapper for the Habano is from Ecuador," Blanco said. "I buy it aged and then age it a little more. When we make the cigar, the wrapper is five years old." Blended around an Ecuadoran Habano wrapper, La Galera Habano incorporates a Dominican Corojo binder with a filler combination of Piloto Cubano, Criollo '98 and Pelo de Oro tobacco. With the exception of the wrapper, Blanco grows all of La Galera's tobacco in the Dominican Republic. "I grow in Mao and in an area between Mao and Navarette," Blanco said. La Galera Habano is made in four sizes, all named with a cigar factory theme: Chaveta, at 5 inches by 50 ring gauge; El Lector, 6 by 54; Cortador, 6 1/4 by 52; and Pilones, 6 1/4 by 60. They have suggested retail prices from $6.20 to $8.20. Enditem |
