D''Crossier Beefs Up Imperial Class With Big New Size

Pure Aroma Cigars Inc., a Costa Rican company known for its portfolio of D'Crossier cigar brands, is adding a hefty new size to its D'Crossier Imperial Class Vintage called Wide Toro. The 5 1/8 inches by 58 ring cigar started shipping to retailers this week.

The brand, the company says, showcases ligero filler tobacco from a 2004 harvest and a Costa Rican wrapper varietal dubbed Habano Criollo Especial. "The wrapper for the Imperium Class Vintage blend is a Habano Criollo Especial, sun grown in the mountains of Costa Rica." Isaias Santana Diaz, president of Pure Aroma Cigars, told Cigar Aficionado.

Along with a Costa Rican wrapper, the cigar also features an Ecuadoran binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica. Although one of the fillers is a 2004 ligero, the company is remaining tight-lipped about which country it's from.

First launched at the International Premium Cigar and Pipe Retailers trade show in 2009, Diaz says that the Imperial Class Vintage blend was years in the making, but didn't come to fruition until he added the vintage filler.

"After two years of experimenting with this blend, we realized the importance of using vintage tobacco to accomplish the complex flavors we desired."

Packed in boxes of 25, the D'Crossier Imperial Class Vintage Wide Toro is priced at $12.50 per cigar, and is made at the Pure Aroma Cigars S.A. factory in Costa Rica. In May, the company announced a distribution agreement with Espinosa Premium Cigars. Enditem
