Heritage by Dunhill Debuts at IPCPR

Dunhill Tobacco of London premiered a new cigar line at the recent International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers trade show called Heritage by Dunhill. The brand pays tribute to Dunhill's history-much like the 1907 by Dunhill released last year, which honored the founding year Alfred Dunhill opened his tobacco shop in London. With Heritage, Dunhill once again draws inspiration from the past with a cigar that features vintage specific filler tobaccos and packaging elements that mirror Dunhill brands from long ago.

The cigar is draped in an Ecuadoran Habano wrapper, features a Nicaraguan Jalapa binder, and, Dunhill claims, contains a variety of vintage filler tobaccos, including 2005 Ometepe and 2012 EstelĂ tobacco from Nicaragua, as well as 2007 Jamastran leaf from Honduras. The brand is being made at Honduras American Tobacco SA (HATSA), owned by General Cigar Co., in Honduras.

"Heritage by Dunhill's dark wrapper combined with its full body profile makes this cigar line very unique amongst our existing portfolio," Yves Poleti, head of Dunhill cigars for British American Tobacco International Ltd., told Cigar Aficionado. "Over the years we have received many requests from consumers around the globe to develop higher impact blends."

Heritage is unique in the current Dunhill portfolio for a number of other reasons: It's the first Dunhill rolled in Honduras since the Dunhill Honduran Selection launched in 1998, a long since discontinued brand that was made by Consolidated Cigar Corp. (a company acquired by Altadis USA) in Danli, Honduras. The design and packaging choices of Heritage are also special to the cigar, as they pay homage to the Cuban Dunhills from decades past. Heritage wears a minimalist and circular cigar band that bears a striking resemblance to Cuban Dunhill lines such as Don Cándido. The cigars ships in simple unlacquered wooden boxes and are bundled together inside with a yellow ribbon, solidifying the classic Cuban cigar aesthetic.

"Heritage by Dunhill will ship to retailers immediately after the IPCPR trade show," Poleti said.

The cigars will be on store shelves by early August. Heritage by Dunhill will launch in four sizes in the U.S. market: Gigante, measuring 6 inches by 60 ring gauge ($12.95); Churchill, 7 1/2 by 50 ($12.55); Toro, 6 by 50 ($11.25); and Robusto, 5 by 50 ($10.15). A fifth vitola, a 6 1/4 inch by 52 ring Torpedo, will be released in the European and Asian markets. The cigars ship in 10 count boxes.

Dunhill had great success as a Cuban cigar brand, and later as a Dominican brand. There are now four regular-production Dunhill lines: The Dunhill Signed Range, 1907 by Dunhill, Dunhill Aged Cigars, and the new Heritage by Dunhill. Both 1907 and Aged Cigars are rolled in the Dominican Republic. Signed Range is made in Nicaragua. Enditem
