Nestor Miranda Collection Danno to Debut this Month

A familiar frontmark is returning to the cigar lines of Miami Cigar & Co., but under a new brand name and only for a short time. The cigar is called Nestor Miranda Collection Danno-and it pays tribute to Miami Cigar & Co.'s Daniel Luis Miranda, who passed away in 2008. Daniel Miranda, whose nickname was "Danno," was the son of company director Nestor Miranda.

"This is obviously a very special cigar for us, and it's the first time we've ever done Danno across three blends," Jason Wood, vice president at Miami Cigar, told Cigar Aficionado.

The Danno has seen a number of limited-edition releases over the years, starting in 2009 with the Nestor Miranda Special Selection 20th Anniversary, which launched in two formats: Danno Oscuro and Danno Rosado. (The cigars marked the one-year anniversary of Miranda's passing as well as the 20th anniversary of Miami Cigar & Co.) In 2010, the Nestor Miranda Special Selection Danno 2010 was launched. Following a one-year hiatus, the Nestor Miranda Special Selection Danno 2012 was unveiled. Although the blend of each Danno has changed year after year, some factors in the cigar's creation have remained consistent:

"Danno has always been a 7 inch by 56 ring gauge cigar," Wood said. "And Don Pepin Garcia [of My Father Cigars] has always helped us with the blend. This year, we ramped up our three Nestor Miranda Collection blends to fit the Danno format."

Wood is referring to the Habano, Connecticut and Maduro versions of Nestor Miranda Collection, three lines that were released last year as part of an effort to overhaul the company's cigar portfolios. Wood says the three blends were scaled to account for the large sized Danno, but the tobacco components remain the same in each blend.

The Nestor Miranda Collection Habano features a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper and Nicaraguan binder over fillers from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Brazil. The Connecticut is composed of an Ecuadoran Connecticut wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The Maduro line utilizes a Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper, Nicaraguan binder, and Dominican, Nicaraguan and Peruvian fillers. Only 1,000 boxes of Danno will be released in each format.

"There were a lot of people that didn't know the significance of the name Danno, they just thought it was a special size," said Wood. "Now, the inside of the box lid includes a special message, a tribute to Daniel. This is the first time we've done this."

Wood also mentions that fans of the Danno should act quickly, as the format won't be seen again for quite some time:

"Danno probably won't be released again until 2018. There are other limited-edition cigars planned for the next two years."

The cigars will retail for $12 each and are going on tour this month at select retailers in the United States, before a wider national release the first week in July. Enditem
