New World Connecticut in Stores this May

Good things come to those who wait: Almost half a year after its launch party at Cigar Inn, cigarmaker A.J. Fernandez is finally sending New World Connecticut to retail. The lightly hued Connecticut wrapped cigar is the follow-up project from father-and-son team Ismael and A.J. Fernandez, whose first collaboration was New World.

"The New World cigar was a very special project, as it was the first cigar that was created with the help of my father, Ismael Fernandez, since he joined me at A.J. Fernandez Cigars," A.J. Fernandez said. "I am more than thrilled that the public reception has been so positive, that it has once again allowed us, as father and son, to create the New World Connecticut."

The original New World cigar debuted at the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers trade show in July 2014. Shortly after, A.J. Fernandez teased the introduction of New World Connecticut at a December launch party in New York City with an event held at Cigar Inn.

The new cigar features a Connecticut shade wrapper from the United States, which is grown under mesh netting to filter the sun's rays (Ecuador Connecticut does not require any netting due to the natural cloud cover in that country). New World Connecticut also uses binder from San Andrés, Mexico, and filler tobaccos from Nicaragua and Brazil. The new cigar is being rolled at the A.J. Fernandez factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

Pricing remains consistent with the original New World, at around $6.00 per cigar. Unlike its predecessor, the Connecticut version will not be box-pressed.

New World Connecticut ships in 20-count boxes and will be available in four sizes: Corona Gorda, 5 1/2 inches by 46 ring gauge; Robusto, 5 by 50; Toro, 6 by 52; and Belicoso, 6 by 54. Interestingly, the Robusto coming to retail is a different size than the Robusto that debuted at Cigar Inn, which was a 5 1/2 by 54 cigar.

New World Connecticut will be available at retail starting next month. Enditem
