Cohiba Edición Limitada Available in the United Kingdom

The Cohiba Robusto Supremos, the thickest parejo cigar ever produced by Habanos S.A., has begun to reach markets around the world. The cigar, part of Cuba's 2014 Edición Limitada program, arrived on shelves in the United Kingdom last week, and many European markets are expecting their shipments this week.

The cigar is five inches long by 58 ring gauge, a super-sized Robusto. It comes in wooden boxes of 10. The U.K. price is £41.90 pounds, or nearly $66 per cigar. Habanos S.A. was unavailable for comment about prices in Cuba.

The Cohiba EL is expected in other countries in the coming days and weeks. Germany expects their shipment by the end of this week. Mexico won't get the cigar until January.

The Cohiba Robustos Supremos is the last of the three 2014 Edición Limitadas to be shipped. The other two 2014 ELs are the Partagás Selección Privada, a 6 1/4 inch by 50 ring cigar, and the Bolivar Super Coronas, a 5 1/2 inch by 48 ring smoke. The two ELs were shipped in the early fall to most countries.

The Edición Limitada program began in 2000. The concept was to produce cigars in special sizes that were not part of the normal range for Cuba's principal cigar brands. In the early years, there were up to five ELs created each year, but since 2005, there have been three ELs produced annually. The cigars are highly sought after, and usually sell out quickly in most markets.

Ajay Patel, who operates the Casa del Habano in Teddington, a suburb of London, received his shipment last week. He reports that the cigar is still young, but it is a flavor powerhouse with a lot of aging potential. He said the cigar performed quite well, with an excellent draw and a tight ash.

Cigar Aficionado smoked the cigar at the 2014 Festival de Habanos in Havana last February. At the time, it had been recently rolled and showed some of the characteristics of a freshly made cigar, with a lack of clarity in the taste. But it was full-flavored, with notes of chocolate, roasted nuts and red pepper. It also had a dark wrapper leaf, which is signature of the Edición Limitada cigars. Enditem
