US: Altadis Releasing Next Generation Saint Luis Rey Source from: cigaraficionado 05/15/2013 ![]() Altadis is giving its Saint Luis Rey brand a facelift and a newer, bolder flavor with the new SLR Gen2, which comes out this month. SLR Gen2 is a blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers, a Nicaraguan Binder and a wrapper leaf of Ecuadoran Sumatra (the original blend features a Honduran wrapper and includes filler from Peru). In an interview with Cigar Aficionado executive editor Gordon Mott, Altadis U.S.A.'s general manager Javier Estades said of the new line, "This is a fuller-bodied Saint Luis Rey. The traditional Saint Luis Rey was medium bodied, so this newer Saint Luis Rey is a completely different blend, but has the same identity to play off those same sweet spots." Altadis is releasing Gen2 in three sizes: Robusto at 4 1/2 inches by 54 ring, Toro at 6 by 54 and Titan at 6 by 60. Despite the supercripted "2" in the name, which could be read as "squared," the cigars are round rather than box-pressed. They all come in boxes of 21, and will range in price from $5.75 to $6.75 per cigar. Enditem |
