ITC Tests Short Cigarettes Source from: Tobacco Reporter 09/05/2012 ![]() ITC is test marketing a portfolio of new brands in the 64-mm filtered small cigarette segment as part of its strategy to compete with illegal cigarettes, reports the Economic Times.
Priced at around INR2 ($0.036) per piece, the new cigarettes include brands such as Scissors Deluxe, Bristol Deluxe and Gold Flake Superstar. Tax-avoiding products account for approximately 20 percent of India's cigarette market.
In fiscal 2011, the Indian government introduced a lower excise tax of INR0.66 per piece on cigarettes shorter than 65 mm. Enditem
