In efforts to further enlarge the scope of local production and local marketing of Shanghai Tobacco Group's cigarette products overseas, the import-export arm of Shanghai Tobacco Group has over recent years actively explored ways of going on international markets in business development. In March 2011, Shanghai Tobacco Group officially started its project of licensed production in Hong Kong of cigarettes of the Red Double Happiness brand family.
After feasibility study and repeated consultation with Nanyang Brothers Tobacco Co., Ltd. in Hong Kong, the project of licensed production in Hong Kong of cigarettes of the Red Double Happiness brand family was eventually approved by China Tobacco International Co., Ltd. This development meant yet another example of success in creative practice by China's tobacco industry in going on international markets after realizing local production of Golden Deer brand cigarettes in Russia and the United States.
In efforts to meet the management requirement for homogenization in licensing the production in Hong Kong of Red Double Happiness brand cigarettes, the production sector of Shanghai Tobacco Group, under the leadership of the production management department of the group, has completed the production of a first batch of 340 kilograms of finished cut tobacco for making Red Double Happiness brand cigarettes in Hong Kong.
After sufficient communication and coordination with the Customs, tax and commodity inspection authorities, this batch of finished cut tobacco was loaded for shipment to Hong Kong on July 4, in making early-stage preparation for guaranteeing scheduled entry into production under the project.
