Cigarettes Made in China Have Lower Tar Content Source from: Oriental Tobacco newspaper 09/28/2006 ![]() Cigarette products made in China are of a basically stable quality, with the average up-to-standard rate reaching 98.54 percent, and with the average tar level steadily declining to 13mg/per cigarette, down 0.6mg year-on-year, according to results of a sample quality survey conducted for the first half of 2006.
In the sample survey of the quality of homemade cigarettes traded on domestic markets in the first half of 2006, the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) examined cigarette products of 137 specifications of 97 brands manufactured by 35 Chinese tobacco manufacturers.
The Top Ten winners in the sample quality survey are respectively The Stone Lion (Super Light 8mg), The Red Double Happiness, Chunghwa, Zhongnanhai, Peony, Baxi (VIP), Derby (Fashionable Silver), Hibiscus King, Nanjing (High-Quality), The Red Flag Canal (Golden Red Hard) and Baisha (Superior), with two of them winning a same place.
The sample quality survey was the first conducted under the 2005 edition of national standards governing cigarette quality.
Results of the sample quality survey also indicated that the average content of carbon monoxide in cigarette smoke tested declined to a low of 14.8mg/per cigarette. Enditem
